It is with great news that I write to you on this momentous day, brother. I have finally landed in San Francisco. About time as well. I don’t think I was ever able to gain sea legs. Now, it is time for me just like our fellow countrymen abroad to serve Japan in expanding her influence. While aboard the ship, I was able to to study the guides. There was a lot of useful information in all of them. I believe I gained a great deal from How to Go to America Alone. We stopped in Honolulu to pick up more travelers. Many were fellow Japanese who were leaving Hawaii in search of higher paying jobs on the mainland. I must say, many of their stories did not quite represent those that had encouraged me to take this journey. Life on Hawaii must be very much different than on the mainland. I was told that the companies and plantations had effectively became powerful unchecked governing forces. Abuse of foreign labor is common. I must be positive and understand that the situation in the United States will not be the same. Hopefully, I will be able to succeed in my studies and make a great deal of money. It is ever important that I send my remaining earnings back home to support the family. I have changed as a person adjusting to life in America. Finding good work has been an arduous task. Under the topic of sex ethics, the morality of homosexuality is a widely debated and controversial issue. One side of the debate asserts that homosexual behavior is against God’s will, and is wrong because we are all obligated to do God’s will, God’s will is expressed in the Bible, and the Bible forbids homosexual behavior (Craig). This debate is called the traditional Christian argument. Although the argument is valid, I will argue against the conclusion that homosexual behavior is not against God’s will and is not wrong, because the second and third premises of the argument are not sound. Comparative Analysis, Haroun and the sea of stories and Inanna Paper I will be comparing and contrasting The decent of Inanna which is part of the cycle of many other stories in this book which date back to around 5000 years. Wolkstein and Kramer take us back to these years when humans found different ways to communicate before language was introduced; through sound, like the repetition in Inanna which brings a musical beat into mind, body gestures, like the shadow warrior Mudra, and pictures, like the cuneiforms shown in Inanna. This book was interpreted by a folklorist who collected and recorded the tales, legends and songs of modern contemporary societies and a cuneiformist who has restored and translated the written tales, legends and songs from the Sumerians times. On the surface, Haroun and the Sea of Stories appears to be a simplistic, light-hearted novel that reads almost like a childrens tale. Beneath the surface, however, something much more profound is stirring, which brings us on an adventure where stories have been passed on and interpreted to create a mythical allusion of a sea of stories as Salman Rashdie wrote. This allusion is shown on page 72. He looked into the water and saw that it was made up of a thousand thousand thousand and one different currents, each one a different colour, weaving in and out of one another like liquid tapestry of breath taking complexity; and Iff explained that these were the streams of story, that each colored strand represented and contained a single tale. (87) In Haroun and the sea of stories, seasons differentiate between the guppies which symbolize spring since it is always dry, hot and sunny in their land and the chupwalas symbolize winter due to the rain and darkness. Also the cycle of life is shown since the story starts and ends almost the same way as if none of it had ever happened as if it were a dream. In the north of the sad city stood mighty factories in which (so Im told) sadness was actually manufactured, packaged and sent all over the world, which never seemed to get enough of it. Black smoke poured out of the chimneys of sadness factories and hung over the city like bad news. (15) At the end of the novel, as the citizens of the city Kahani rejoice over their newfound name, water pours from the sky, suggesting the lasting happiness that language can bring. Showing the memory of the name Kahani, which happens to mean story, as the one thing that can make a sad city happy, Rushdie implies the vast importance of freedom of speech and words. The shadows still have a life of their own; however it is no longer regarded as the bad side of a person. This transition can even be seen in Harouns thoughts in which gruesome combat turns into something as beautiful as a dance. And as they fought each other, standing toe to toe, Haroun began to think of their combat as a dance of great beauty and grace, a dance danced in perfect silence because the music was playing inside the dancers heads (124). One of the main problems which the Ritz-Carlton Hotels as well as others organizations have is the consideration of training as the afterthought process. That is why the level o f performance of new employees is too low, as well as the productivity that leads to employee turnover. Lawson (2006) is sure that in spite of the fact that â€Å"an effective new employee orientation takes time and effort† (p. 2), it is considered to be the well-worth instrument. The well-planned and perfectly structured program may help an employee to understand his/her role in the company better, to get more knowledge and to be ready for the working conditions in the company (Lawson 2006; Boudreau Ramstad 2007). Thus, it may be concluded that the Ritz-Carlton Hotels has a number of problems which may be solved in complex, as increasing the company productivity by means of the new employees, the company should increase the training of the candidates and change the recruitment procedure that, in its turn, will result in the reduction of turnover in case the necessary activities are provided. If the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company attempts to provide all the changes and follow th e recommendations to problems solution mentioned in the paper, it will be able to increase its productivity and the number of clients who will desire to stay at the hotel with high level of serving provided by highly trained and experienced staff.
